In my "Someone stole Blanche Devereaux's room divider from the Golden Girls and stuck it to my wall" era...
aka life's a journey, might as well enjoy it (but that would be a very boring title)
I love ❤️ projects! Love, love, LOVE projects. Whether it’s building miniatures, painting, renovating, casting/ moulding/ painting prosthetic pieces for a movie I’m working on, or knotting a wig, knotting is one of my all-time favorites.
Last week, I started a project in my office. The wall behind my desk, the one you see on all the Zoom calls, was too boring for my taste. It’s been beige since we moved here, and I’m fine with beige. Sometimes, it’s good to be simple vanilla.
I have been through a lot of changes in the past 6 months. Nothing major, but a ton of small little “let’s see how you handle this shit” type of events. For example my mom and dad (plus his current wife) were in the same room with me for the first time since 1977. Yep, you read that right! They divorced over 40 years ago, and it has not been pretty since. I can feel your blood pressure rise, honey, but don’t worry; it all turned out better than expected despite a few ugly moments.
Which brings me back to my wall… I had a brilliant idea to add framed wallpaper panels to create a sort of oversized art. Change the color of the wall to something fun and colorful (purple, it had to be purple because that’s my favorite color), add wallpaper with bold pattern and coordinating colors, frame it, and BAM be done.
I am halfway through this project, which has been plagued by delivery delays, and I’m looking at the wall and thinking, “What the hell did I do?” It seriously looks like someone stole Blanche Deveraux’s 1985 room divider from the Golden Girls and slapped it on my wall high enough for God to see it.
Oh, so easily I could look at this as another failure. I could pull off all the wallpaper and framing, telling myself it’s time to give up before I even finish. “Just repaint the wall and be done with it.” But that’s not who I am. No Sir! I know things can get ugly on the way to my destination. That doesn’t change the destination, tough.
Like this wall, I will breathe through these unsightly moments and continue toward the finish line. I will add some more framing, paint, and other finishing touches, and I KNOW it will be stunning. And if it isn’t stunning enough for my taste, it’s only paint and framing. Easily fixed.
You are never stuck in life, and you should never judge your journey at the halfway point. You can change the color of your paint (or direction in life) as many times as you want. What colors are you choosing today?
Love always,
I love this honey!! 🎉♥️ And I love that you’re spicing things up back there on that wall!! Here’s to changing direction whenever tf you feel like it 🙌🏽🤩🫧
Yay, what a great improvement! Paint costs a small amount but makes a big difference. Nice job and perspective! <3 Loveee the color too. Brava. Now I can't wait to do our next zoom call so I can see what it looks like through my screen :0) Glad you're having fun.
